Yayasan Cipta Budaya Indonesia
The Teater Keliling, as a modern drama institution, was established in Jakarta-Indonesia
on 13 February 1974 by four Indonesian artist : Ir.Dery Syrna, Buyung Zasdar, Paul
Pangemanan and Rudolf Puspa and first
artists are Jajang Pamuntjak, Saraswaty S, Willem, Moh.Hidayat, RW Mulyadi and
Syaeful Anwar.
It has performed 1439 shows in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia,
Pakistan, Egypt, Rumania and Korea. The Teater Keliling has therefore learned a
great deal from folk theatres in Indonesia. Applying modern approach, it makes
use of essential elements of these folk theatres for creating new works,
already performed in different parts of the world.
Two factors seem to have contributed to the success of the Teater Keliling.
One of these factors has been the dominance of movements and sound, which can
easily touch human feelings. The other factor has been the way the observations
of human problems are presented in amusing performances which, while
entertaining can stimulate the audience’s awareness of the importance of
sharing with one another happiness and sorrow and mutual concern and mutual
assitance in establishing worldpeace.
The beauty of the theatrical arts has a very livuly vigor since theater is
a means to reflect and have a discourse. Thefore a communicative performance,
in whatever form, is the underpinning for Teater Keliling’s work wherever it
may be. The Teater Keliling’s mission is to have a heart-to-heart dialog in
realizing life’s cognitive on its times without forgetting the past, and
becoming more perceptive in the future.
The Teater Keliling has participated in many international art festivals :
- Indian
ocean arts festival. Perth, Australia September 1979.
- Singapura
drama festival 1981.
- The
international festival for young professional theater. Sibiu, Romania
March 1994.
- The sixth
Cairo international festival for experimental theater, Egypt September

performing arts festival on the fiftieth anniversary (Golden Jubilee)
celebrations of His Majesty’s accession to the Throne. Bangkok Thailand
March 1997.
- The 2nd
Asian theatrical festival. Pusan, Republic of Korea August 1997.
Teater Keliling is convinced that throwing yourself into the arts means
honing the right side of the brain to achive a balance between the intellectual
and the emotional intelligence. The ability to “listen” and “speak” is a living
skill sorely needed by mankind all of which can be had within the theatrical
space, where collective work in the form of a performance teaches us to
communicate to others.
Teater Keliling has flowed and will continue to flow with hope and faith
that the theater public will increase as time goes by. Hopefully. Amen.
